About Jane

My name is Jane. I am a professionally qualified, registered, BACP Counsellor, Supervisor and Psychotherapist. This means I have letters after my name, such as FdA and MBACP. What does this mean to you? Probably not a lot, but to reassure you that it means I have to prove to my professional governing body that I have done all the right courses and adhere to their guidelines. I'm sure you don't need to hear me talking about how I can offer a safe space and that I'm non-judgemental - that goes without saying, so I'm not going to mention it anymore.

I started my counselling path late in life, I was in my late 40s. I thought ...what am I doing? But I soon found out I liked studying Counselling! I discovered that my life experiences have undoubtedly been a big part of my motivation to become a Counsellor. I felt as though I had lived my life feeling judged; not doing what's 'right' or not doing what I 'should be doing' by other people's standards.

My counselling journey:

A lot of that has changed now, and my Counselling journey has helped me to recognise my strengths... as well as my weaknesses, but, this is ok, we are all different. My life and work experience has come together to give me a real passion for working with people who may be struggling in life, for so many different reasons, and to work with them to find a way through, and move on to enjoy life! I am a really good listener at work and enjoy turning this off at home!

I enjoy the odd bit of running, horse riding when I can, I have my own full time private practice and loving every minute of it.

Well, I'm definitely different now, I'm me and enjoying living life the way I want to.

My professional experience is extensive and includes addiction, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, low self-esteem and domestic abuse. I have worked for the Survivors Trust, where I counselled survivors of rape, sexual abuse and childhood sexual abuse. I have also worked in prisons, counselling individuals with substance misuse, depression, grief, relational problems and other mental health related issues.

My Approach

I work in a person-centred and trauma-informed way, which simply means I meet you where you are, at your pace, and I never ask you to be anything other than yourself. Some people arrive with something specific they want to work through, others just know that something feels heavy. Both are welcome here.
